Dairly Tunes: The ‘Hey Sista Soul Sista’ Playlist

During a particularly slow day at work, my co-workers/friends and I were talking about the songs that are our current 24/7 jams. Somewhere in the middle of this conversation, Hannah came up with the idea of which the above playlist was the product. The idea was stupidly simple and intricately genius all the same: each of one of us was to pick out five of her favorite songs and add them to the group playlist, no repeats. There were five of us, so the playlist would ultimately result in twenty new songs to add to our workday jukebox. As the day progressed, the playlist kept growing and growing (it was immensely difficult to limit to five songs!). Given how different our personalities and tastes in music were, it was interesting to see what other people would add to the playlist—it’s like a window to their inner beings. Since the playlist creation yesterday, I haven’t been able to stop listening to this playlist we’ve created that I’ve decided to share it with all of you as well. Hope you enjoy, and happy Saturday!

Never let go of me.

OASIS—Champagne Supernova

U2’s live performance of ‘City of Blinding Lights’ against a beautiful New York City backdrop. Color me surprised when I learned via this video (h/t my sister) that the inspiration for this song was not Paris per Devil Wears Prada, but the Big Apple itself.

Now playing.

Ahh, The O.C. Nothing brings me back to my high school days quite like the Seth-Ryan-Marissa-Summer clique. I’m not ashamed to admit this is one of my favorite TV shows. Season 1 was obviously the best.

Music you turn up during your summer car rides (also, what a sax solo!)

Dairly Tunes, ‘The Summer I Wish I Had’ version

I would love nothing more than to have day after day of this summer be filled beach outings, sunshine aplenty, and sweet idleness. But alas! Since June 1, I have had none of that. CPA exam, you’ve officially taken years off my life I have yet to figure out how to replace. To torture myself make up for my lonely weeks staring wistfully back and forth between my textbooks and outside, here are this summer’s music I have been tuning-in to:

  • "Sunshine" by Matisyahu
  • "Between the Raindrops" by Lifehouse feat. Natasha Bedingfield
  • "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)" by Fergie, Q-Tip & GoonRock
  • "Don’t Be Shy" by Shwayze
  • "Feel the Love" by Rudimental
  • "Deadbeat Summer" by Neon Indian
  • "Money Honey" by Lady Gaga
  • "Cruise (original)" by Florida Georgia Line
  • "No Surprise" by James Yuill
  • "Heart Skips a Beat" by Lenka
  • "I’ll Try Anything Once" by The Strokes
  • "Island in the Sun" by Weezer
